The cooktop
It is a gas cooktop with five burners. The knobs are on the front panel, and each one is marked with a dot showing which burner it controls.
- Push the knob in and turn it to LITE. You will hear clicking. Keep it there until the flame catches, usually two or three seconds.
- Turn the knob back toward HI or LO to set the flame.
- Turn to OFF when you are done. Check the flame is actually out.
If a burner clicks but will not light after five seconds, turn it off, wait a minute for the gas to clear, and try again. The grates are heavy cast iron: lift them off to clean, and never put them in the dishwasher.
The oven
- Press Bake.
- Type the temperature on the keypad, for example
350. - Press START. The display shows the temperature while it preheats and beeps when it is ready, about fifteen minutes for 350°F.
- Press OFF when you are done. It cancels whatever is running.
Convect Bake works the same way and is better for cookies, roast vegetables, or anything on two racks at once. The oven adjusts the temperature for you, so type the number from the recipe.
Timer: press Timer Set/Start, type the minutes, press Timer Set/Start again. It is just a timer and does not turn the oven off.
The buttons do nothing? The control lock is on. Hold START for three seconds to unlock it.
The drawer under the oven is a warming drawer, not storage. It keeps plates or a finished dish warm while the rest catches up. Turn it on and off with the Warming Drawer buttons, and leave it off when you are not using it.
Please do not run Self Clean. It takes four hours, smokes, and trips the alarm.
The microwave
It is the built-in one in the cabinet tower. Put the grey splatter cover from the cabinet above it over anything saucy and it saves you wiping the inside.
The dishwasher
The buttons are along the top edge of the door, so open it a little to see them.
- Put one pod in the door dispenser and snap it shut. Pods are under the sink.
- Press Normal Wash.
- Press Heat Dry if you want the dishes dry when you open it.
- Press START/RESUME, then close the door within a few seconds. It does nothing until the door is shut.
- The green Clean light comes on when it is finished, about two and a half hours on Normal. 1 Hour Wash is fine for a lightly used load.
Opening the door mid-cycle pauses it. Shut it and press START/RESUME again.
The buttons do nothing? Hold Control Lock for three seconds.
Keep out of the dishwasher: the cast-iron grates from the cooktop, the wooden cutting boards, and the wooden-handled steak knives.
